Frequently Asked Questions

Booking & Appointments

How do I schedule an appointment?
Click the Schedule Now button at the top of the website or go directly to https://daytonfamilymassage.com/book-a-massage/. You may also call us at 937-234-7376. However, the phone line cannot be answered while we are in another massage appointment. You may leave a voicemail, text, or go back to the online scheduler (preferred).
Do you accept walk-ins?

No. However, same day and last minute appointments will show online here.

Something came up. Can I reschedule?

Use the link in your confirmation email to reschedule 24 hours or more before your scheduled appointment time. We understand sickness and emergencies are not planned so please give us a call at 937-234-7376 to let us know you’re unable to make it in.

I changed my mind. Can I get a refund?

Ummm, are you sure you want to change your mind? 🙂 Call and speak with Jen at 937-234-7376.

Should I reschedule my massage if I’m sick?

Yes. Of course! If it’s less than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, please call or text 937-234-7376. You may also reschedule with the link in your confirmation email 24+ hours before your appointment.

Reschedule due to any contagious illness plus any of these symptoms: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, flu-like body aches, rash, skin irritation, respiratory discomfort, sore throat, sunburn, and use your best judgment for other symptoms.

If in doubt, please call and discuss with us.

What is your late arrival policy?

If you know you’ll be arriving late, please contact us so we don’t head out for coffee 🙂

You’ll receive the remaining time for your appointment and be charged the original fee. We’ll end at the scheduled time.

I purchased a Gift Certificate, how long is it valid?

Technically, Ohio requires gift certificates to be valid for two years. But we really prefer it’s used within a year because we want to see your smiling face and take care of you! If it’s been a whole year and it’s still not used, we’ll just think you hate massages.

Massage Session

Will I need to fill out any forms or paperwork at my first appointment?

Yes. Depending on what massage you are having, please print, fill out, and bring to your first appointment the First Time Client Health Form. Additionally, if you are having a Fertility Massage, please fill out that form too.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. The massage table is designed for your comfort. Please let us know if you do not want the table warmer on.

Must I be completely undressed?

Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed. However, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. If that means completely undressed, great. If it means you keep shorts on, that’s fine too. Want to wear leggings, well, we won’t be able to use massage oil or cream but leggings are fine too. You will be properly draped during the entire session and nothing inappropriate will be uncovered at all.

Will the massage therapist be present when I disrobe?

The massage therapist will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.

Will I be covered during the session?

Yes, you will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

A typical full-body session will include work on your neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs, hips, glutes (covered with a sheet at all times), and feet. Please request face and scalp if you’d like those areas worked on. If you prefer any areas to be skipped, let your massage therapist know.

What will the massage feel like?

A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Coconut oil or massage cream is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excess friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage is most effective when your body is not resisting.

What should I do during the massage session?

Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the massage therapist any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The massage therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, a temperature change on the massage table, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage session?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Stay hydrated following your massage and don’t plan any strenuous activities.

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there different kinds of massage?

There are numerous types of massage; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic gliding, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?

Yes. That’s why it’s imperative that before you begin your session the massage therapist asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the massage therapist of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
